The stomach and the linea alba are two separate items on our price list. The linea alba — the narrow strip of hair running down from the navel — is the more often chosen of the two, and the cheaper one.
What exactly this area covers
The choice between them depends on how the hair is distributed:
Linea alba
The narrow strip running vertically from the navel towards the pubic mound. A separate, cheaper item on the price list.
Whole stomach
The surface from the rib line to the underwear line, including the navel area.
Chest treatment is separate
The chest is a separate treatment area above the rib line and is not included in abdomen laser hair removal.
Bikini not included
The pubic mound belongs to the bikini area. We agree the boundary before the first session.

Why the linea alba is the most common request here
The linea alba is a strip that in many people darkens and thickens after pregnancy or a change of contraception. Shaving it leaves a rough, distinct line, because cut hair is stiffer than untouched hair.
It is also an area that constantly rubs against the trouser waistband and the elastic of underwear. Freshly shaved skin plus friction is the classic scenario for ingrown hairs and small pustules around the navel.
Practically: it is one of the cheapest and quickest items on the price list, so it is usually added to a bikini package rather than booked as a separate visit.
What to expect during treatment
Position and coverage. Lying on your back. We treat the navel area more carefully, because the skin there is uneven.
Sensation. Gentle over the stomach surface, more distinct on the linea alba itself and just below the navel, where hair can be thicker.
Shaving
The area shaved the day before, no lotion on the day of the session.
Agree the boundaries
We agree where the stomach ends and the bikini begins — the most common source of price list confusion.
Treatment
Work in bands, with cooling. The navel and its surroundings are treated separately.
Afterwards
Redness for up to a few hours. Loose clothing at the waist for the first day.
How many sessions and how far apart
At Velvet Skin Clinic we plan a series of 6–8 sessions in this area, every 6–8 weeks.
The linea alba can be hormone-dependent — after pregnancy or a change of contraception the hair can intensify, and maintenance sessions are then needed. The range is our clinic's protocol.
There is one reason a single session is never enough: the laser only affects follicles in their growth phase (anagen). At any given moment only part of the follicles in an area are in that phase — the rest are in catagen or telogen and do not respond to light. That is why sessions are repeated at intervals, to catch successive groups of follicles as they enter anagen (Natarelli et al., 2023, PMID 36769541).
Which laser for the stomach
We do not use one laser for everything. The device for this area is chosen at your consultation, after assessing your skin phototype and the thickness and colour of the hair. For phototypes IV–VI, the choice of wavelength is a matter of safety, not convenience (Lee et al., 2026, PMID 41884758).

What changes with each session
Laser hair removal works over a series, not from one session to the next — below is what you can realistically see at each stage in this particular area. Results are individual and depend on hair colour and thickness, skin phototype, and hormonal factors.
After 1–2 sessions
Shedding after 7–21 days. On the linea alba itself the result can show after the very first session, because the strip is narrow.
After 3–4 sessions
The linea alba stops being a distinct dark line — regrowing hairs are finer and lighter. Hair across the abdomen becomes sparser more slowly.
After the full series
Single fine hairs remain. In people after pregnancy, linea alba hair often recedes on its own — worth assessing before starting another series.
How to assess your results
The most useful changes to look for are how much hair grows back between sessions and how often you need to shave. Photos taken immediately before and after a session may look similar, because the treatment area has already been shaved.

What we watch for on the stomach
Below are situations specific to this area. What is the linea alba in hair removal?
The narrow strip of hair running vertically from the navel towards the pubic mound. On our price list it is a separate, cheaper item than the whole stomach — for many people it is the only part of the stomach that needs treatment.
Can I have stomach laser hair removal after pregnancy?
Yes — after the postpartum period and breastfeeding, as decided during your consultation. Fresh scars, including caesarean-section scars, are avoided until fully healed. Linea alba hair often recedes on its own after birth, so it is worth waiting a few months before starting a series.
Can the treatment be done during pregnancy?
No. There are no studies showing harm, but no studies confirming safety either — which is why we do not perform laser hair removal on any area during pregnancy.
How many sessions does the stomach need?
At our clinic we plan 6–8 sessions at 6–8 week intervals. The linea alba itself can be hormone-dependent, so it needs maintenance sessions more often.
How long does a linea alba session take?
About five minutes. It is one of the shortest items on the price list, so it is usually added to another area during one visit.
Does the laser work on stretch marks?
Stretch marks are not a contraindication to hair removal, but the skin within them is thinner and reacts differently — we work more carefully there. Laser hair removal does not, however, change the appearance of the stretch marks themselves.
