Expression lines
Do you furrow your forehead, have a frown line between the brows or crow’s feet? We will show you how to smooth them safely and naturally — so that your face stays expressive rather than “done”. At your consultation we will look at how your face moves — and select a precise therapy.
What are expression lines
Expression lines (also called dynamic lines) are the lines that appear when the face moves — when you smile, furrow your forehead or squint. The muscles of facial expression attach directly to the skin, so every movement folds it in the same places. Over time, as the skin loses collagen, those folds start to show at rest as well.
They most often affect three areas of the upper face: the vertical frown line between the brows, the horizontal lines across the forehead and the crow’s feet at the outer corner of the eye. They are a natural part of ageing rather than a flaw — but if they add years or a stern look, they can be gently softened.
See the details
The first-choice solution is botulinum toxin type A — a protein that temporarily and reversibly weakens the overactive contraction of a specific muscle for several months. The skin above it stops folding and gradually smooths out. The effect develops over a few days, reaches its full extent at around two weeks and usually lasts 3–4 months.
The key is precision rather than quantity: choosing the dose and the injection points so as to relax what creates the line while leaving your natural expression free. That is why at our clinic this is a doctor-led treatment, preceded by an assessment of how the muscles of your face work.
Experience you can rely on
Botulinum toxin is one of the pillars of our aesthetic medicine offering — it is administered by doctors at both clinics.

Where expression lines come from
Repeated facial movement
The same movements — raising the brows, furrowing the forehead, smiling — fold the skin along the same lines for years.
Falling collagen and elastin
With age the skin springs back more slowly, so the mark left by a movement lingers longer and becomes more permanent.
Lifestyle and the sun
UV radiation, stress, sleeping on your side and squinting in the sun all speed up the point at which lines become permanent.
Recognise your case
The frown line (glabella)
Vertical furrows between the brows that can add a stern, tired look. The most common reason for a first visit.
Forehead lines
Horizontal lines that appear when you raise your brows. A natural look matters especially here, so that the expression is not frozen.
Crow’s feet
Radiating lines at the outer corner of the eye, visible when you smile. A delicate area that calls for precision.
Not sure which group you fall into? We will assess it at your consultation and select the method.

Book a consultationHow we help with expression lines
For dynamic lines the first-choice solution is botulinum toxin — matched precisely to the way your muscles work. If the line is already visible at rest as well, we combine it with work on the quality of the skin. Every option has its own page with the details.
Botulinum toxin
Smooths the frown line, the forehead and crow’s feet by calming an overactive muscle. A natural result, performed by a doctor.
A quick comparison of the options
| Method | What it does | Who it is for | Timing / course |
|---|---|---|---|
| Botulinum toxin | Smooths dynamic lines while preserving expression | Lines visible on movement (forehead, glabella, crow’s feet) | Full effect within 2 weeks, lasts 3–4 months |
| Toxin + biostimulation | Smooths movement and rebuilds the skin you see at rest | Lines present even without movement | A combined plan — after a consultation |
Let us talk about how we can help you — we will take care of the rest
We start with a conversation
You briefly describe what bothers you — the line itself, a stern look or tired-looking eyes.
Assessment of facial movement
The doctor assesses how the muscles work and how strongly they contract — that determines the dose and the injection points.
A precise treatment
A few gentle injections into selected muscles. No anaesthetic, and it takes little more than ten minutes.
Review and adjustment
After around 2 weeks we check the result and top up the dose if needed.
What the research says
Botulinum toxin type A is one of the best-studied procedures in aesthetic medicine — with dozens of clinical trials and clear dosing standards. That is why at our clinic it is administered by doctors, based on an assessment of your face.
Efficacy and safety profile in the frown line
A multicentre, randomised, placebo-controlled trial (119 patients) confirmed the efficacy and safety profile of botulinum toxin type A in the treatment of glabellar lines.
Ascher B. et al., 2004. PubMed →A confirmed profile in facial wrinkles
The Cochrane systematic review “Botulinum toxin type A for facial wrinkles” confirms the efficacy and the good safety profile of the toxin in correcting expression lines.
Camargo C.P. et al., 2021. PubMed →An individual approach
A natural result comes down to the dose and the injection points — we select them after assessing how your muscles work. There is no single protocol that suits everyone.
Informational and educational material — it does not replace a medical consultation. Results are individual and depend on the concern, the method and the number of treatments.

Our approach
A doctor-led treatment
At our clinic the toxin is administered by doctors — who assess facial movement and take responsibility for the dose.
A natural look above all
The aim is to soften the line, not to freeze the face. Your expressiveness stays.
Checking the result
A follow-up visit after 2 weeks and any adjustment are part of the standard.
Frequently asked questions about expression lines
Will it be obvious that I have had something done?
With a correctly chosen dose, no. The aim is to soften the line while keeping your natural expression. That is why the dose and the injection points are chosen by a doctor after assessing how your muscles work.
How long does the effect last?
Usually 3–4 months. The effect develops over a few days and reaches its full extent around two weeks after the treatment. With regular repetition the intervals often become longer.
How safe is it?
Botulinum toxin type A is one of the best-studied aesthetic procedures and has been in use for decades. At our clinic it is administered by doctors, after assessment and taking into account the contraindications discussed at your consultation.
How does it differ from fillers and biostimulators?
The toxin relaxes the muscle that creates the line on movement. Fillers and biostimulators rebuild the skin you see at rest. For static wrinkles we work on the quality of the skin — see the concern “static wrinkles and volume loss”.
What does the treatment feel like?
It is a few very fine injections — most people describe them as light pinpricks. An anaesthetic is usually not needed and the treatment takes little more than ten minutes.
How much does the treatment cost?
The cost depends on the number of areas treated. Reception confirms the price list, and the best starting point is a consultation, at which we will propose the scope. (Price list — to be completed.)
Injectable treatments are performed by our doctors
Aesthetic medicine treatments at Velvet Skin Clinic are performed exclusively by qualified doctors — with relevant medical training, postgraduate studies in aesthetic medicine and clinical experience. Every treatment is preceded by a consultation, during which the doctor tailors the therapy to your needs, indications and natural facial proportions.
